Banana Leaf Farming

Growing

Banana leaves come from the Musa genus of Banana plants, which rapidly grow as tall as trees across Indonesia. The rhizome produces the leaves at a rapid rate during the monsoon season, leaving an abundance of older leaves which are then harvested.

Stripping & Drying

Once collected, the mature banana leaves are stripped into long fibres and sun-dried to remove moisture and preserve their natural colour, which can range from golden beige to deep olive, depending on the leaf and climate conditions.

Spinning

Banana fibres are twisted and spun into strong, flexible cords to form a durable, natural yarn suitable for weaving into our Banana Leaf coffins.

Finished Banana Leaves

Finished reels of Banana Leaves have an earthy, natural colour and provide a soft aesthetic.
